Solution to my problem March 24, 2007
Posted by Ben in General.add a comment
Over on Binary Joy there has recently been information disappearing from the custom field section of a number of the posts. I thought I had fixed the problem but today I noticed it hasd happened again so I went searching and, thanks to Mark Jaquith, have now got the answer
The issue occurs because the plugins assume that every time
edit_postis triggered, their inserted form field will be included in$_POST. This isn’t the case.edit_postis called for requests that do not originate from the post edit form and for requests that are not initiated by a privileged user. Comment submission in WordPress 2.1 is one of these cases. Editing of a post in 2.1 (and earlier versions) via XML-RPC is another case.
Now I need to make sure that all the plugins use this code so that the problem does not continue to happen.
WordPress Firefox spellcheck March 10, 2007

Found this plugin today and thought it was interesting.
My comments on the wordpress wysiwyg editor before shows the problems I was having and this plugin fixes those issues. Essentially what this does is enable the firefox spell checking in the text area - the one feature I really wanted added to the editor.
Gun Wing - new game from Binary Sun February 11, 2007

Just a quick heads up to let you know that I have recently released the latest game from Binary Sun.
Gun Wing is a fast and frantic vertically scrolling shoot ‘em up featuring retro styled graphics and easily accessible gameplay.
By the way - I am still using the wysiwyg editor, although I tend to stick to the code view of it, simply because I get to use Firefox’s built in real time spell checker.
WordPress visual editor comments February 1, 2007

This is going to be my first wordpress.com post using the wysiwyg (visual) editor. I am normally a hardcore type person who likes to do everything through code, but now that the code tab has been added this “may” be better. I will have to use the system a bit before deciding if I like it or not.
I do however like the idea that I can write my posts without worrying about writing the code myself, and for things like lists this is much nicer.
One thing I have noticed is that there is no writing area resizer in the code panel… which just doesn’t make sense to me. I can resize the panel in the visual area and then switch to code, and the changes are kept, but I can’t do it in the code view itself. Hopefully this is coming soon as it’s relatively simple to do (you can see an example here).
Also I notice that pressing enter creates a new paragraph. This goes against the textarea method I am used too - but I think that’s a problem I have rather than something that is wrong with the system they are using.
Finally I wish Firefoxes built in spell checker would work in the visual editor. This is currently my biggest drawback to the system. Having to remember to press the spell check button (or switch to the code editor) before I post a message is awkward, and it seems a bit silly to not allow something that is built into the browser and I have grown used too.
WordPress.com - new design = lovely, font choice = suspect December 18, 2006

The wordpress.com main site has received a makeover and it looks wonderful. The only problem is the font choice. It looks great… assuming you have antialiasing turned on. Turn it off and you see what I see in the screenshot to the left.
I am sure there are people out there who say I should turn anti aliasing on, but as a web developer I like to set up my system so that I will see things as the average user will, and in this case most Windows users will have antialiasing off, since that’s the default for a new install. Now IE 7 is out things will change (since it installs the necessaries), but it will be a long time before it is standard.
To tell the truth the only reason I made this post is so I can send feedback to the wp.com devs so they can see the problem ![]()
Binary Joy - new site from Binary Moon August 4, 2006

I have recently been working on a new video gaming website - Binary Joy. It features news and reviews of video games.
From the About page:
Binary Joy is a website dedicated to video games, but not just any games. Good games. Games you enjoy. We will feature any game, as long as the person doing the writing enjoys what they are playing. This means that you will only find games that we think are worth playing. Of course you won’t necessarily agree and that’s why the comments are there. We’d love to hear your opinions on the games and news we talk about so feel free to join in the conversation.
We’re always looking for new writers/ publishers, so if you have an interest in games and can post news and reviews then contact me and we can see how you go.
My first wordpress.com spam comment January 8, 2006

I got my first wordpress.com spam today. The comment read
HACKED SANALMAFİA.COM
The text wasn’t linked and they would gain nothing from the nofollow covered link. Not much point to this post really, I just thought it was interesting since wp.com has been really clean so far.
Regulus - Admin Panel added to WordPress.com December 27, 2005

Woot - The Regulus admin panel has been added to wordpress.com, which now means I can change the colours and graphics to be a little more unique
If anyone hasn’t seen them you should head on over to the presentation section of your wordpress blog and check it out, even if you don’t use it it’s worth a look (I think - but then I’m biased
)
Regulus 2.0 released December 13, 2005

I’ve released Regulus 2.0. It’s designed specifically for wordpress 2.0 and won’t work in 1.5, although there is an updated version for people who aren’t using the latest beta.
I’ve sent the new version to Matt so hopefully it will be updated on wordpress.com (erm… here), with the key new feature being an admin panel that works in wordpress 2.0 and therefore hopefully on the blogs here as well.
Regulus - theme by me - on wordpress.com November 26, 2005

Woo Hoo
I checked the comments on my other blog this morning to see that Matt had added Regulus, a theme I had written and released a few weeks ago, into the theme selections on this site, wordpress.com.
Naturally I am now running Regulus as the theme here, and it will be good to see if it can be improved anymore.
There are a couple of things missing, most notably the admin panel, but in general it works pretty well and I’m really happy it’s been added.
If anyone has any suggestions for things that could be added or improved I’d love to hear them.
